Silverfish (Thermobia domestica) are primitive, flightless insects and an interesting addition to the diet of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. They come from German breeding stock of Bugs International, one of Europe's leading insect breeders, and are delivered fresh on Monday mornings.
Firefish reach a size of approximately 10–12 mm and are related to silverfish. They prefer a dry, warm climate. Due to their quick and lively movements, they particularly stimulate the natural hunting instinct of the animals they care for.
Breeding them is very time-consuming: the fish need around 3 months to reach sexual maturity, and a female lays a maximum of about 50 eggs. Therefore, silverfish are only available in limited quantities and are not a mass-produced food, but rather a high-quality addition to the diet.
