Chocolate cockroaches ( Eublaberus posticus ) are a very nutritious and high-quality feeder insect that is becoming increasingly popular in terrarium keeping. They owe their name to their dark brown, chocolate-like coloration. They are characterized by a high protein content, good digestibility, and their robust, fleshy body structure.
Due to their calm, ground-based behavior, chocolate cockroaches are particularly well-suited for feeding reptiles, amphibians, large spiders, and other invertebrates. They are flightless, do not climb smooth surfaces, and are therefore easy and safe to feed. Despite their rather leisurely movements, they reliably trigger a feeding response.
In terrarium keeping, chocolate cockroaches are often used as a main food source or a high-energy supplement, especially for rapidly growing, pregnant, or weak animals. Thanks to their various size stages, they are suitable for both juveniles (in chopped form) and adults.
