Zophobas are the larvae of the darkling beetle ( Zophobas morio ) and are among the larger, particularly energy-rich feeder insects. They are readily accepted by many reptiles, amphibians, large insectivores, and fish. Due to their high fat and protein content, they are ideal as a supplementary food, for improving condition, or as an occasional treat.

In terrariums, superworms are particularly valued for animals that are reluctant to eat or weakened, as their movement triggers a strong feeding response. Due to their size, they should only be fed to smaller animals in crushed pieces or selectively.
