Argentine wood cockroaches ( Blaptica dubia ) are among the highest quality feeder insects in modern terrarium keeping. They are prized for their high nutritional value, excellent digestibility, and calm, ground-dwelling behavior, which makes them particularly easy to handle.
Unlike many other cockroach species, Argentine wood cockroaches cannot climb smooth surfaces and are flightless. This makes them ideal for the controlled feeding of reptiles, amphibians, spiders, and other invertebrates. Their slow movement pattern still provides a reliable feeding stimulus without unnecessarily stressing the animals.
Thanks to their favorable calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, Argentine wood cockroaches are excellent as a staple food and support a balanced, species-appropriate diet. They are low-odor, quiet, and very long-lived when stored properly, making them particularly attractive to both beginners and experienced keepers.
